Manute Bol, Hockey Star
November 13, 2002
Manute Bol to play minor-league hockey. No kidding. Fresh off his celebrity boxing match with The Fridge, Bol is going to become the tallest minor league hockey player in history.
By all accounts, Bol has never played the sport or ever laced up a pair of skates. At this point, equipment that would fit the Dinka tribesman has not been located.Bol is going to become the tallest minor league hockey shameless publicity stunt in history.

Posted by Andrew Raff at November 13, 2002 12:19 PMdid you know that manute bol does these stunts to raise money to send to Sudan? did you know that manute bol is bankrupt because hes given all his money to the sudan?
Posted by: chris on November 16, 2002 07:31 PMI am quite aware that Bol is engaging in these ridiculous stunts for a good cause. But just because someone has good intentions doesn't mean that their actions should be free from scrutiny. Perhaps Bol is serving his causes poorly by trivializing them by willingly engaging in stupid publicity stunts. While Bol has contributed money to Sudanese children, I doubt that he has rallied as many people to his cause as he might if he treated his cause with more respect. A ridiculous, shameless publicity stunt is still a ridiculous, shameless publicity stunt no matter how good the intentions.
Posted by: Andrew Raff on November 17, 2002 12:33 PMI don't think you have any idea, do you? Do you know where the Sudan is, let alone what's going on there now and what has been going on there for so many years. If you really knew and understood the problem, I doubt you'd even consider our sports to be any sort of comparison to that part of the world. If you really knew and understood the problem, you'd think that whatever that man does is worth the cause.
Posted by: joey on January 28, 2003 09:39 AMi for one admire what manute bol is doing for his country. how many selfish athletes would walk away from such a situation? just about every one of them. and who are u andrew raff (u know who u are) to knock him for supporting a good cause? power to manute bol and good luck with the hockey i say
Posted by: juan on March 5, 2003 06:04 AMManute is among the smartest guy i ever found on earth, i really adore whatever effort he is doing to help his people. He stop his wanderful career (NBA Play) to help bring peace to the warring parties in Sudan. I appreciate what he is doing, God bless him. Power to Manute and i reckon he gonna shine in hockey as he did in basket.
